How can I train my Dachshund to hunt?

He's good with the pursuit alright, but what am I to do with this guy? He's under 2, so it can't be that hard.

Is he a gun dog?
Do I have him chase animals?

I'm thinking about the latter, but the only problem is having him come on my call, even a 50 foot leash won't help when I'm in the woods.
This is a dog barely a year and a half old and bred to hunt small game, are you serious?

He'll hunt just fine. Just keep in mind that he's a little dog, so smaller calibers to start. Slowly work him up to a .270 or so.
